Imperfections
This body of work was inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi – embracing imperfections and accepting the transient nature of life. I draw inspiration from my environment and climate change, looking at graffiti and billboard posters that have been destructively torn away by wind, rain and heat. I find beauty in this partial destruction and decay of material over time. This is something that fascinates me and aim to evoke and embed within my work.
The work was displayed at Brighton City Campus in June 2024. As exhibited originally, the laser cut screen prints were hung loose, just in front of the background screen prints.
As the works were vulnerable to damage and were not easy to display, I have since had them sympathetically framed. The laser cut screen prints are set behind artists glass, so that the set-back screen printed block coloured prints can be seen through the cuts.
