Balloons

Balloon material: Latex, organic but still harmful.

This body of work explores the slow collapse of latex balloons (considered single-use) as a meditation on impermanence, fragility, and transformation.

A paradox: balloons suggest joy, but as they break down, their chemical dyes and other toxins, as well as the latex material itself, make them harmful to animals (who may swallow them or get tangled in them) and the environment.

This contradiction mirrors the emotional residue of celebration: Beauty tinged with its aftermath, cost of human presence even after death.

The balloons I use are repurposed where possible. They have had their stale air squeezed out of them. By capturing these forms in their mid-collapse, I aim to hold space for a prelonged moment that is neither beginning nor ending, a liminal state of soft destruction. While they remain as art pieces, they have been saved from harming the environment.
