About

My Practice

In my practice, I breathe new life into discarded objects, reflecting the dynamic, ever-evolving nature of existence with all its imperfections and beauty. In a world increasingly obsessed with perfection and aesthetics, I explore the value inherent in the irregular, the flawed, and the overlooked, drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi. My work emphasizes the power of transformation, showing that even in apparent neglect, there is vitality and purpose.

I work primarily with three mediums: plastic, paint, and balloons. These materials, often considered waste, become the foundation of my exploration into the circular economy and the repurposing of discarded materials. By using processes of heat, inflation, deflation, weathering, and the passage of time, I push these materials to the brink of destruction.

In doing so, I allow my intuition, knowledge, and sense of play to guide the creation of each piece, which is often in a state of flux.

The objects I create, I call Changelings, they are wall objects to soft sculptures, they are not static; they are interchangeable, site-responsive, and connect by colour and texture. These works mirror the cycles of vitality and decay, both in the physical world and within the human experience. Much like the objects I repurpose, people too are cast aside once their visible utility fades, and this theme resonates deeply within me.

As a mature artist, I also grapple with the process of becoming invisible, as well as coming to terms with my own mortality. Through my art, I seek to challenge our notions of value, revealing that the discarded, the worn, and the neglected are worthy of reflection, transformation, and new lives. Not all my Changelings are archival, some will break down and morph over time, so my customers are custodians of the Changelings, after all, nothing lasts forever.
